Ricardo Bustillos

I was born in Mexico and came to Santa Fe when I was four years old. I’ve spent most of my life here, and both my Mexican roots and growing up in Santa Fe have played a big part in shaping who I am. I’m proud to call myself both Mexican and a Santa Fean.

I currently work as a caregiver, which is actually how I came to be part of EQUUS. I had the privilege of caring for Kelly’s mother, and through that connection I was introduced to the ranch and its community. I also help care for my own parents, so caring for others has become a very meaningful part of my life.

Through caregiving, I’ve learned that being there for someone is about more than simply helping with their daily needs. It’s about building trust, being patient, listening, and sometimes simply being present. Those experiences have shaped the way I connect with people and have taught me to appreciate the small moments and relationships that make life meaningful.

I’m grateful to now be part of EQUUS and to have the opportunity to work with people, animals, and a community that values connection. For me, it’s about being present, being useful, and helping create a place where people feel welcome and cared for.
